About the Painting:
This one was a “must paint.”
I have always loved Tallulah Bankhead for her mysterious aura and her have-at-it-attitude. Having just finished Wright on Rita, which included details of the columns from the adjoining City National Bank (also designed by Frank Lloyd Wright); I knew I wasn’t done with Mason City. I had to feature the bank in its own painting and who else could wear it? This was a serious “no-brainer.”
As I begin to paint, images for the background start to flood in. When I do these pieces, I not only research the history of the iconic women but also the history of the buildings. This always yields a treasure trove of images and ideas.
Frank Lloyd Wright was not only an innovative architect; he was also an impressive designer of interior furnishings. His philosophy of “bringing the outside in” was revolutionary. I had been waiting for a painting where I might reverse his philosophy by pushing “the inside out.” And this was that piece.
In the background of Bankhead, I have incorporated Wright’s designs from carpets, art glass windows and insignias found inside these two buildings. The result is very linear and purposeful, with the unmistakable colors Wright had chosen for his interior designs.
The finished piece finds a soft and feminine Tallulah reclining in her angular surroundings. No one else could confidently pull this look off. You can Bank on it.

About Tallulah Bankhead (1902-1968)
Tallulah Bankhead was an American actor known for her husky voice, outrageous personality, and devastating wit. Her dauntless character and unique mannerisms garnered her lasting acclaim in comedy and melodrama on both sides of the Atlantic. Bankhead contributed to the welfare of foster children and helped families escape the Spanish Civil War and World War II. Having performed roles in over 300 film, stage, television, and radio shows, her work can be experienced in movies such as Stage Door Canteen, Lifeboat, Fanatic, Faithless, and A Royal Scandal.

Prints on fine art paper include a white border for easy framing, which can also act as a mat. Therefore, your image will be smaller than its total paper size. Border sizes are stated and shown in the photo of each listing.

Shipping
I currently ship within Canada and the Continental United States. Each print is hand packed by me to ensure its safe arrival. Please understand that I am a single artist, working full time, and printing each painting to order, so expect up to three weeks for arrival.
I provide budget-friendly Domestic shipping within Canada, however Canada Post does not provide a tracking number for this method. You will receive a notification from my store when your painting has been shipped.
If you live in the United States, Canada Post does provide a tracking number that will be included in your shipping notification.
If you do not receive an email stating that your painting has shipped within two weeks, please contact me.
In the unlikely event there is a problem during shipping, please photograph the packaging and the problem and contact me so that I can contact the Post.
